Founded by Despina Kanlı, Turkey’s first female tavern owner, Madam Despina is located in Şişli, Kurtuluş. Serving a wide array of cold and hot mezes, fried liver and pilaki (cranberry beans cooked in olive oil) are among the favorite specialties of the tavern. Over the years Madam Despina has become a prominent location for many people in the culture and arts community.
